Learning Objectives for the Unit
- General Objective: To develop students' English language skills: Reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Through engagement with Jamaican cultural themes, moving beyond stereotypes to uncover deeper layers of cultural identity, history, traditions, and contemporary practices.
- Specific Objectives:
1. Enhance vocabulary and idiomatic expressions in English through the study of Jamaican English contrasts.
2. Develop reading comprehension and writing skills by analyzing authentic cultural texts and multimedia materials.
Cultural Awareness:
1. Recognize and differentiate between stereotypes and deeper cultural aspects.
2. Appreciate how Jamaican art, music, food, and sports contribute to the nation's identity.
Digital Literacy and Collaboration:
1. Engage with multimedia sources (videos, online articles, interactive quizzes).
2. Work collaboratively in virtual groups to discuss and present findings.
